The infrared sensor will let you follow a black (or white) line if you put it on a vehicle with these characteristics. You will also be able to activate your inventions by waving your hand over the sensor, since it detects light reflection.

The line follower IR sensor is capable of following a black line on a white surface autonomously and with no external control. It is made up of an infrared LED and a phototransistor placed next to each other. The LED acts as a transmitter, and the phototransistor acts as a receiver. The infrared LED emits infrared light, that is, light that has a longer wavelength (or lower frequency) and is invisible to the human eye. If this light hits a white surface, it will be reflected and bounce off onto the phototransistor. On the other hand, if it hits a black surface, the material will absorb the majority of the light, and it will not reach the phototransistor.

Connect it to any of the digital ports on the 4in1 Build&Code control board. Look at the colors of the cables and the colors of the terminals on the control board to guide you. Each cable should be connected to its color.
